Daffodils For Spring Show

Show daffodils
To all those growing daffodils for exhibiting
in the HIHS Spring show on Saturday 24th March 2018
Peter Rogers offers the following advice:

The main "housing" of pots continues throughout this month.
The greenhouse must be unheated for an even development.

Start moving any late season varieties you want to flower
for our show at the start of February.

The mid-season varieties can be brought in
around the middle of February.

Early varieties can be left outside until buds start to form
but are usually housed by the end of February/ early March.

A solid state feed of either Vitax Q4 (high potash, powder form)
or sulphate of potash is given to all pots
and ground grown around the middle of February.
Do not feed with anything high in nitrogen,
as this will destroy the bulbs. one teaspoon to a pot,
lightly watered in or 2oz per square yard,
lightly worked into the soil if possible.

Keep all pots evenly moist at all times
especially ones that have been housed.

Continue being vigilant for pest/disease/virus problems.
RHS advice and guidance yellow stripe virus.

Keep any ground planted bulbs free from weeds as necessary.

Make sure outdoor beds are weed free before feeding.

I hope this is useful to everyone, Kind regards, Peter.
