The Trading Centre is a horticultural shop run for the benefit of HIHS members. Our aim is to provide members with virtually all their gardening needs at the most economic price. We are a non-profit making section of the HIHS that is run completely by members for members.

The Trading Centre is located at the far end of the car park at the end of Legion Road, just off Elm Grove near the Co-op and adjacent to The British Legion. Car parking is free.

All composts and any other item you require will be carried to your car, so you have no worry about lifting heavy items. We accept cash and card payments.

Just as a taster, what we have available includes peat free and peat-based composts, including specialist propagating and small plant composts, horticultural sand and grit, manure and top soil. We have a full range of fertilisers, bug control, pest control and weed products. In addition to those we also have an excellent range of gardening accessories including pots and seed trays, watering cans, gloves, greenhouse spares, plant sticks, bamboo canes and many more items. And we must not forget, a vast range of gardening tools both large and small.

We have a range of about 200 vegetable and flower seed varieties to choose from and we also supply seasonal items such as potatoes and spring and autumn flowering bulbs. The shop is manned by members who can provide useful advice on most aspects of gardening. If they don’t know the answer, they can direct you to somebody who will or you can use the gardening reference books available in the shop. There is usually a range of free, out of date but still very useful, magazines that you are welcome to take, as well as the most recent issue of ‘The Garden’, the RHS magazine. We also have Sale items during the year that are advertised on the website and Facebook.
