Jobs to be getting on with this month.

You do not need to be a member of the society to be welcomed into the Facebook group, just answer a couple of questions from our admin – we look forward to seeing you there.

  • Mow the lawn when dry, with blades on medium cut.
  • Mix grass cuttings into the compost heap.
  • Smarten up lawn edges.
  • Apply spring lawn dressing.
  • Dead head primula, winter-flowering pansies and violas
  • Dead head daffodils do not cut back foliage.
  • Protect new spring shoots from slugs and snails.
  • Lift and divide overgrown clumps of perennials.
  • Ventilate greenhouse and conservatory on warm days.
  • Sow seeds of bedding plants and sweet peas.
  • Sow seeds of tomatoes, aubergines, cucumbers and peppers in greenhouse.
  • Prick out early sown seedlings, handle by the leaves.
  • Inspect greenhouse plants for signs of pest or disease.
  • Top dress planted containers with fresh compost.
  • Pot plant summer-flowering bulbs, available now from our Trading Centre.
  • Prune hybrid tea and floribunda roses.
  • Prune late flowering varieties of Clematis.
  • Continue planting roses, shrubs, conifers and soft fruit.
  • Top dress beds and borders with a general fertiliser,
    available now from our Trading Centre..
  • Deal with weeds before they get out of hand.
  • Plant shallots, onion sets and Jerusalem artichoke.
  • Plant early potatoes, available from our Trading Centre.
  • Sow peas, summer cabbages, early cauliflowers, carrots and lettuce under cloches.
  • Start an asparagus bed.
  • Spread compost and fertilizer around fruit trees.
  • Clean out and sterilize bird boxes and tables.
